Back Forest Flocks - Soay and Boreray

We specialise in the preservation of Soay and Boreray rare breed sheep.  At any one time we have in excess of 150 sheep.

We take an active interest in the Soay Sheep Society and as Secretary and Membership Secretary please contact me if I can be of any help.

We look to breed the very best of lambs and our foundation stock comes from some of the best and most diverse flocks in the UK

Back Forest Flocks - About Us

As most smallholders we started small.  We had four acres and wondered "what shall we do with it...?" Eventually we decided to foster a pair of donkeys on behalf of the Donkey Sanctuary... here they are

and then we wondered "what else should we do...", so we bought some rare breed chickens,

and then we moved house to a smallholding with even more acres.....

You guessed it we thought "what should we do with ten acres..." so we bought some rare breed pigs called KuneKunes... here are two of the bad boys.

The first is Charlie, named after Prince Charles as he is a rare breed too! And the second is called Big G after a CEO John worked for.

Oh and don't look too closely at Charlie as he might be eating some rare plant - Defra might get a bit upset. As you can see from the picture of Big G they don't root...oh yes they do - big time

Finally we thought how about some sheep, rare of course.  So we started with Soays, dabbled with Jacobs and then settled on Soays and Borerays.  As the flock grew so did the land so we now have twenty acres and rent another 20.

Over the last ten years we have grown, loved and nurtured some of the finest and biggest flocks in the UK.  All bred from carefully selected foundation stock.
